We were scheduled for the 10pm flight to London with a connection to Madrid where we had planned on meeting HT for tapas and a few pubs. By midnight however we found ourselves stranded with a plane that had been struck by lightening multiple times. We made our way home at 2am, having exhausted all possible options and getting removed from the free hotel list. Thanks to Mom we were able to return home to research our options and regroup.
At 5am we returned to the terminal armed and ready. Turns out British Airways had no clue what was happening so we spent hours waiting in line commiserating with our brethren on the 8am flight which was also cancelled.
Eventually the fates took pity on us and Freddy the BA flight dude was able to pull some strings to get us on a direct flight to Madrid, taking us from being days and countries away from our planned itinerary to only having to replace one flight.
It's nearly 10am. We have spent over 10hrs in the terminal. I'm pretty sure that if things hadn't turned around we would be filming the sequel to Tom Hanks' film "The Terminal"
Exhausted Joe and I have simply collapsed on a few chairs, unable to move at the moment to go to the next terminal where our 8pm Delta flight is located. For now we pass out and plan our next steps.
At this rate we will be ready for next seasons Amazing Race in no time.
