We made it to Copenhagen tired but in one piece. After getting off the subway/tram we walked through the city on our way to the hostel. There were a few walking tours that we passed, one of which spoke about the church that was also a restaurant. It seems since attendance is low that they go between serving people food and serving them religion. We also walked past at least a dozen burger places, I had no idea that cheeseburgers were so popular here.
By the time we arrived at our hostel it was just about 1pm. We dropped off our things and sat in the room for a moment just figuring out what to do. We decided to get out and see the town a bit more.
We somehow found ourselves in the Times Square of Copenhagen with all the other tourists. It was a mad house. Stores every where, selling everything and enough people that it felt overwhelming. James suggested we turn off the block to get away from all the people and we ended up on a block of cafes and restaurants. Good thing too cause we were starving. So of course, we had cheeseburgers.
They charge 10 Kroner for ketchup. Who would've guessed. We made our way back through the town with the intention of going to Tivoli - the oldest amusement park probably in the world. Instead of making a right to get to the entrance we made a left, and had to make our way around the entire freakin park before getting to the entrance. Still full from lung we didn't want to go on rides or anything like that so by the time we found the gate we felt like we saw what we needed to see and headed back to the hostel. But not after stopping to admire the Halloween decorations.
We stopped at the grocery on the way back, which if you've ever read this blog before you'll know is one of my favorite things to do in a new town. They had some interesting candies like larve gummies and salt fiske. We found some cheap water and I found some daim candies that I used to eat all the time in ikea. Hauling back the water we slowly crawled back to the hostel. A quick rest in the room til the dinner rush was over and then it was down to the bar for a few drinks. As always hostel patrons get a discount at at 8pm it was two for one Carlsberg. Delicious.
James figured it was easier to eat in the bar then it was to go get a jacket (or none in his case, thanks to whoever stole it while he was in DC) and walk three blocks to 7-11 which is a fancy place here. So we got pepperoni pizza which had both pepperoni and peppers. It was pretty good. After sitting there a while longer we had enough and went back to the room.
In the room was our British roommate sitting on his bunk. He had gone to Sweden for the day and said it was nice. It was his last night in Copenhagen so he was retiring early to make his plane early in the morning. We had a great chat about app development and working with stupid clients - he does data analysis for similar kinds of people and companies. Then the Germans came into the room looking to see if anyone would be partying to which we said no so they left us there to catch up on our internets and go to sleep. Thankfully they weren't too loud when they came back in the middle of the night. Otherwise I slept like a rock.
